This residence is designed as a harmonious dialogue between structure and landscape, utilizing a minimalist palette to frame the surrounding environment. It balances monumental form with human-scale comfort, creating a sanctuary that feels both expansive and intimately grounded.
The process
1. Concept Development
The design is anchored by a bold, rectilinear concrete frame that encapsulates the primary living spaces, creating a striking contrast between heavy mass and transparent voids. This 'lantern' concept allows the residence to glow from within at night while framing specific views of the landscape during the day.
2. Spatial Planning
The plan is divided into two distinct volumes: a solid service wing housing the garage and entrance, and a transparent social pavilion defined by floor-to-ceiling glazing. The upper level extends outwards with a glass-enclosed balcony, effectively expanding the private quarters into the open air while maintaining a sleek, horizontal profile.
3. Final Touches
A refined material palette combines raw architectural concrete with warm vertical timber siding and dark composite panels to create textural depth. Integrated LED strip lighting accentuates the building’s geometric outlines, while frameless glass balustrades ensure an unobstructed connection with the manicured surroundings.
