This residence is designed as a harmonious dialogue between structure and landscape, utilizing a minimalist palette to frame the surrounding environment. It balances monumental form with human-scale comfort, creating a sanctuary that feels both expansive and intimately grounded.
The process
1. Concept Development
The design originated from a desire to dissolve the boundary between indoor and outdoor living, treating the structure as a lens through which to view the site. We focused on reducing visual noise by aligning the building's axis with the sun's path, ensuring natural light sculpts the interior volumes throughout the day.
2. Spatial Planning
We organized the layout around a central circulation spine that separates the open, communal entertainment wings from the secluded private quarters. Verticality is emphasized through a double-height void in the living area, establishing a visual connection between the lower social spaces and the upper gallery.
3. Final Touches
Materiality was curated to age gracefully, featuring natural stone cladding and warm timber accents that soften the crisp modernist lines. Bespoke joinery and integrated ambient lighting were recessed into the architecture itself to maintain a clean, uncluttered aesthetic that celebrates the raw materials.
